The Queen's Sword and Casey's Sword (Butterfly Queen, WalrusDice Prods. 2021)
I completed this project for an independent film in the summer of 2021. I designed and built the dressing for two combat blades, which appear in the final duel between the hero and the villain at the end of the film. (in the initial designs, we believed we had a smith to forge blades for us, but in the end used pre-existing aluminum sport combat blades instead). The sword for the Queen drew inspiration from old farm equipment and re-claimed wood. It was supposed to be an ominous weapon, sharp, and made with one grim purpose. Casey's sword, on the other hand, was meant to be an all too classic affair, the poster child for a fantasy hero's sword. Both grips feature a hardwood core. The Queen's sword has tin and steel fittings, while Casey's sword is wrapped in molded leather, stitched up the side.
