Holiday Tablecloth v1 (Huntington Theatre Co. 2020)
This story has two parts. The first concerns this hand painted, resist-dyed piece. We were given a cotton curtain backing fabric, and used a tapioca-based liquid resist. The goal was to simulate a batique technique- to that end the resist was applied with a series of stamps and stencils. The dye was then painted on, and steam set in a vat. Due to a calculation error, however, the final piece was far too light, and the tablecloth would no appear on stage.
Holiday Tablecloth v2
Part 2. During tech, we acquired fabric that was already a desireable color, and applied a thin fabric paint with our stamps and stencils. The tablecloth was hemmed and sent to stage, where it would remain for the run of the show.
