Harpy Wings (The Tempest, Commonwealth Shakespeare Co. 2021)
These wings, rigged to a large rope wall upstage, emerged from a hidden platform for Ariel's famous monstrous monologue. The base of the wings is made from many feet of red and orange rope that I tied together to form a net. At a later stage, I wove torn and painted fabric through the net to fill out its appearance. Lines from the rope wall hooked into carabiners at the tips so that performers could hoist the wings into the air behind Ariel and the other spirits.
